When Life Hands You Challenges - Make Cookies

Lately, Wesley has been driving me crazy. I don't know what exactly it is but he has been disobeying a lot recently. It just doesn't make life fun for either of us. When Chris is home I noticed he is also frustrated by Wesley and his behavior.

I don't want to paint a bad picture of Wesley. He is incredibly sweet. The other day at Bible Club he said that he was thankful "for my baby Lydia." When it was Lydia's turn, she was too shy to say anything so Wesley answered for her, "she is thankful for me."

So, I am asking for you to pray for me. That I will have wisdom and patience with Wesley. Another blogger also did a wonderful post summing up her problem and my problem - selfishness. It is so hard for me not to be selfish even in regards to my children. Isn't that terrible?

Chris is also working more and more hours. I have learned not to call and bug him to come home. God has given me the wisdom and patience to wait for Chris and to ask, "So, how was your day?" instead of saying what I want to say, "You need to get home earlier." He doesn't need to come home an hour earlier. It would be wonderful but we can wait for him.

In attempt to do something fun with Wesley, I waited until after his nap to make cookies for the next MOPS event. He loves dumping the ingredients into the bowl. Here he is counting the cookies.
Here is his silly smile.
Ahh, the taste of the reward for eating a good dinner.
Why is he eating dinner in his PJs? While dinner was in the oven, he yelled, "Mommy I have to go pee pee" and ran to the bathroom. The sound coming from the bathroom seemed a little wierd and when I went to look, he had his pants down but the toilet was still closed and he was peeing all over the floor and baseboards. This honestly didn't bother me (praise God) because it truly was an accident and it had never happened before today. We did talk about not waiting to the last second to go to the bathroom and that he can always come back to play.

Sweet Renee,

I have been there as well. Know that you are not alone. I will bow my head now and lift you up to Him. Good for you to recognize, ask for prayers and wait for the Lord to bless you. You KNOW He will, in His own time!

We have not had many times together, but anyone that is this dear to my sweet Nancy is someone dear to me!

Keep the cookies coming:)

I am so proud of you for having a good attitude. God is truly growing us through our precious (and frustrating) children.

First, I am praying for you, my friend. Next, you are so not alone. There is a reason I call Ainsley "my blessing and my challenge." Third, both you and Rachel are too hard on yourselves when you're both great parents. And, finally, it blesses my heart to see how you and Jill encourage and support each other. Such dear friends, both of you are to me!!

We have found with both kids that their behavior regresses right before they make an important developmental leap. It's easier to see when they are younger and they start rolling over or walking, but you see it even in Claire in 4th grade. It's frustrating and not always easy to appreciate when you are in the middle of it, but it always passes.

You are a great mom and a great wife. Making cookies with your son and finding different words for your husband even though his hours are hard on you - all of these things take charachter and integrity and of course love. You are one amazing woman!

Ahh you're so sweet Renee, I'll definitely say a prayer for you and I think no matter what age our kiddos are we've felt it too :) Cookies was a great idea! They look yummy!

Making cookies and involving Wesley was a brilliant idea! Gotta love distraction. Samantha's been in a funny stage lately where she's quite defiant, but like Amanda said, I do see the developmental leap that's brewing (independence). I'm sure it's just a phase, and he'll accomplish the personal goal he's trying to accomplish (that he doesn't even consciously know about) and move on. You've got so much patience--don't worry! I totally had to laugh about Wesley and the toilet, though. Samantha somehow manages to miss the baby potty frequently and I spend a lot of time cleaning the floor in the bathroom. LOL
