National Harbor

Today after lunch we went to the National Harbor. We didn't really plan this trip; we just got in the car and went. If I had looked at the website first, I would have made sure we were able to go out on this speed boat. We just missed the 1:00pm tour and we didn't want to wait until 3:00 for the next 45 minute tour. Nonetheless we had a good time walking around. Next time, we may plan for the boat ride. Wesley was very interested in The Awakening. No, this isn't the book I read my senior year in high school. This is the sculpture of a giant embedded in the earth trying to free himself. It was originally installed in Haines Point in DC in 1980 for the International Sculpture Conference Exhibition. I had never heard of it until February of this year when the sculpture made the news because it was being dug up and moved. It was sold by the artist, J. Seward Johnson, Jr, for $750,000.
Here are Nana and Pawpaw posing under the 17- foot arm and hand.
"Mommy, there are his toes!"
Lydia thought the whole thing was a big yawn so she prepared for a nap.
It is wonderful to see what excites a three-year-old. Wesley loved running on the letters on the pier and naming them.
The Gaylord National is the beautiful, impressive hotel seen in the background. Wesley and I loved all the fountains and waterfalls.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful.

In the 18-story atrium, there is a fountain show that is like a miniature version of the Bellagio Fountains.
Wesley had fun running around on the paths in the garden area. It was fun to watch him burn off the last bit of pre-nap energy.
Before heading to the parking garage I picked up some cupcakes for dessert tonight. Now these cupcakes aren't cheap so I only got three cupcakes and one crunchy feet.

Okay, this is so hilarious, Renee! We just got back from the Gaylord Texan!! Isn't that funny? I'll post some about it later, but we didn't bring our camera....

That place looks beautiful! Something to see next time we come. Looks like you guys had a great weekend. :)

It never even occurs to me to go all these places! How do you find the time? I need your activity list!

How funny - as I was casting about for something fun to do today, we ALMOST went over there! I looked on the website and decided it wasn't quite kid-friendly enough for our crowd, but I think your post proves me wrong. I have fond memories of visiting The Awakening when I was a kid and would love for my kids to see it again. The Gaylord's pretty swanky, n'est pas? Have you been to one courtesy of MOPS? (I got to go to Orlando last year)
