Disappointment...
Our neighborhood was supposed to have a kids' holiday party on Sunday from 4 to 5:30. This event was planned months ago. Numerous emails went out to the community. I bought crafts for the kids to do, I did the crafts with Wesley so there would be demos, I baked six dozen cookies on Sunday (the slice and bake kind but I did roll them and use cookie cutters), and I purchased supplies for the kids to decorate the cookies. Another mom in the neighborhood also baked several dozen cookies.
On Saturday evening, we had an adult wine and cheese party in the clubhouse. After the party, we left the holiday decorations set up and a few long tables set up and nicely decorated.
On Sunday I arrived at the clubhouse at 3:20 and the parking lot was overflowing. Uh Oh! I bounded out of the car and ran into the clubhouse and found a party in full swing.
Someone had rented the clubhouse. Someone had called the community management company three weeks ago and got "board approval" for their party on Sunday and picked up the key on Friday. They had reserved the clubhouse from 4 to 8. They thought
someone had decorated for them!
Was I mad? Yes, but mostly I was very disappointed. I thought I was going to start bawling right there in the middle of someone else's party.
Since our neighborhood party was canceled. I didn’t have to rush to Cubbies to see Wesley dressed up as Joseph.

They combined two classes and did a little pageant. It was super cute but Wesley got dismissed as a Joseph by another mom. So all the other Josephs, Marys, and angels got a turn to stand up front and recite the lines the story-leader told them but Wesley was completely passed over. He obviously did not care but it did sting my heart a little. It would have been fun to see him stand up and act out the part.

About the costume: A friend had to tell me exactly what to do. When I went to buy the fabric (my first trip to a fabric store), I had to explain to the girl cutting the fabric what I was doing. She tried to convince me to glue it since I wasn't going to sew it. Finally the lady behind me asked about the costume. The fabric cutter said, "
She doesn't want to sew it." I stated, "
I can't sew." The kind lady behind me said, "You just take a rectangle piece of fabric, cut a slit it so it goes over his head, tie a belt around his waist, put a piece of fabric over his head and put a dollar store headband over it to hold it on." Yes, that is what I was planning to do -
no sewing necessary.

It was fun to go to Cubbies and seeing the band that plays for the kids and how excited the kids get.

It was also neat to see how the story-teller at Cubbies really emphasizes that the baby Jesus came to die on the cross for us. She held the real baby up to the cross to emphasize the point. I wasn’t surprised by this since my friends told me about it last year. One of them commented that during her daughter’s story time, one of the other kids yelled out, “That’s my brother!” LOL.
Lydia loved going to Cubbies! Chris pointed out that she will probably protest the next time Wesley goes to Cubbies because it will be without her.

Oh, Renee, I am mad and disappointed for you! Call me 'cause I need the rest of the story!! Why didn't the board tell you guys? Why did they let another party go at the same time in the first place? What did the people at the party do when they found out about the childrens party? ARGH!
As always, Lydia and Wesley are so cute! I told Mark I want Lydia and he said I should have put her on my Christmas list!! :) (And, of course, I'll gain Wesley as a son in 20-something years!!)
what a bummer about the party! i would have been so deflated.
Wesley makes an adorable Joseph.
You are a better mama then I - instead of planning out costumes, my Wesley just went in her "queen esther turned Mary" costume and Silas ... well, we scrounged around and I found an old baby towel that had a sheep hood so, voila! he was a sheep :)
Ditto what Nancy said. Why didn't the board call you? Wesley made an adorable Joseph. I threw H's outfit together in 5.0 seconds, as you can plainly tell. :)
What a bummer about your party! I kind of can't believe that the people actually thought someone came in and decorated for them. It would have been hard for me to not go in there and rip down all of my decorations. I'm kind of Grinchy like that! (o:
The kiddoes thing looked so cute! I love watching kids to the Christmas pageants this time of year - it's so precious!
That is so sad! And aggravating! Did they at least give you back the decorations? What a disappointment.
Cute pics of the kids! I love that they sat still through the performance. I wonder if Samantha would.
ohhh and I am sorry Wesley was passed over as joseph....that would have stung my heart, too.
