Public Works Fun

Today we made our third annual trip out to Herndon for Big Truck Days. We got there at 9:30 which turned out to be a great time because it wasn't crowded. Wesley wanted his picture made with the raccoon but Lydia was a little afraid of him.
I let Wesley choose the first stop and he chose the garbage truck!

The next stop was the big dump truck that cost $127, 000.
Lydia "driving" the sweeper.
Of course they both wanted to be in the higher seat.
They wanted the door closed on the Bobcat.

"More lemonade please."
The event is free but they encourage families to bring donations of non-perishable food. In addition to the fun there is also lemonade and cookies.

Wesley seat belted himself in so I had to climb in and unbuckle him - TWICE. Since there weren't any long lines, the kids "drove" several things twice.
Wesley posed with the backhoe.
The kids "operating" the backhoe.
Our friend Evan.
What is almost as much fun as playing with a trash truck? Splashing in a puddle!
From the front of this big truck, I could barely see the hats the boys were wearing.
Michele and Rachel
Wesley wanted to see the trash truck again. The kids had to really climb to get to the driver's seat.

It was well worth the drive out to Herndon for this fun morning. I think it is wonderful that they put their big trucks on display for the the kids.

soo cool! My kids run for the front door when they hear the trash truck on Mondays. Our truck has mechanical arms so we don't have the guys that jump off the back at every house. This would be sooo cool!

Oh man, I gotta get that on my calendar for next year - we didn't have anything going on today and could have joined you. Looks like fun!

I think that is so neat. If they had had something like that here in Georgia when my boys were little, it would have been a MUST DO for us! They would have had a fit! That's would've been better than a theme park to them.
