Day at the Zoo

On Saturday we went to the zoo in Columbia, SC. I was thrilled because we all got in free since we had our FONZ card with us. It was a great day to go to the zoo - the weather was beautiful.
Chris' mom and dad.
The elephants weren't grey; they were red just like the dirt.
Lydia usually wants to ride in the stroller when we go to the playground or when Wesley rides his bike. If I ask, "Wesley do you want to go ride your bike?" she says, "I want to ride in the stroller." She goes into the garage, gets into the stroller and buckles herself in.

Amazingly, Lydia walked almost the entire time we were at the zoo. She rode in the stroller from the parking lot to the front gate and then for about 10 minutes while she ate some popcorn. The rest of the time she walked, ran, or jumped around. There was no stalling at bed time that night.
Wayne took this picture of Chris and me.
Here we are at the giraffe feeding area. They weren't hungry so the lady wasn't even trying to sell any of their food. It wouldn't have been fun to feed them.
The baby giraffe was so cute.
The lorikeets weren't very hungry either. They must have had their fill of nectar early in the day.The lorikeets are beautiful, colorful birds.
The kids enjoyed feeding the goats.
One of Wesley's favorite animals - the alligator.
We saw a group of people looking up at this tree and walked over to see what had their attention. It was a snake! The people who work at the zoo deemed the snake to harmless so they left it there.

The lion looking very regal.
The flamigo's had eggs in their nests.
Wesley liked the penguins.
Before leaving the zoo, we decided to check out the Aquarium-Reptile Complex. On the outside it didn't look like much but on the inside it was really nice and housed a lot of animals including this pointed nose snake.
Wesley loved this giant crab and he immediately started talking about eating crab legs. I think the crab made him hungry. Of course we didn't want her to kiss the komodo dragon.
Dianna and me. On the way out of the zoo, the kids posed for more pictures.
I told Dianna that she would probably see a lot of photos of Wesley in this outfit. I love the way it looks and it is easy to spot him in a crowd when he wears this orange shirt.
This sign was one of my favorite parts of the zoo. I am not sure that anything at our local zoo, the National Zoo, would acknowledge that it is God's world. But hopefully I am wrong about that.

How awesome acknowledging God's creation!

Other observations: 1) That was a big snake hanging out in the tree! Yikes! 2) Hilarious that the big ugly looking crab made Wesley hungry...and for crab legs! He cracks me up!

The pics of the lion and the flamingos were really amazing. I have never seen a flamingo's nest before, that was cool, and it was as if the lion was posing for you! Looked like a fun day.
