people to share their tips on what makes every day life easier.

I have enjoyed reading everyone else's tips, especially the ones related to decluttering.
Here are some things that I do to try to make everyday life easier.
1. For the last six months or so, when I make a casserole (or lasagna) for dinner I don't put it in a 9 X 13 pan. I put it in two smaller pans. I usually freeze the second one or I take it to a friend. I also try to double some recipes so I can freeze a meal.
2. I am trying to teach my almost four year old that he is responsible for some chores. He puts away all the silverware from the dishwasher. He stands on a little step to help him reach the counter (where I put the basket of silverware) and so he can see where it is supposed to go. After I take the kids clothes out of the laundry, he matches up the socks (I fold them together) and he puts away his underwear and both his pajamas and his sisters. Both kids like to help load the washer and dryer and this only caused a problem once. Of course, we are always working on cleaning up the toys (sometimes I forget to tell them to do because I am thinking about getting them ready for naptime or bedtime so I have to do better with this one.)
3. The only way I can fit in (make time for) Bible study is doing it first thing in the morning, right after making a cup of coffee.
4. If you live in the Mid-Atlantic area (and maybe a little farther south), you can plant Winter Pansies in the fall that will bloom again in the spring. I love having a burst of spring color with no extra work on my part.
5. I read this in a magazine. “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit.” I say this when he says, “I want the biggest piece” or “I want the green plate.” I can’t always give him the green plate because sometimes it is dirty and he can’t always have the biggest piece because Lydia is beginning to realize she is getting short-changed. So, in a feeble attempt to teach them that life isn’t fair, I tell them, “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit.”

"You get what you get and you don't throw a fit" is a fabulous saying, and one I definitely plan on using when I have kids!
I also love the first tip for freezing dishes. Who doesn't love having to do the prep work for two meals only once?!?
Have a wonderful week!
We live by the "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit" rule :)
I also do the same thing with casseroles or other dished like that!
Have a great Monday! great ideas!
Well #5 is great until you hear it come back to you! One day my oldest son spilt his cup across the table and I said joking "I should have had girls, you boys make such a mess!" And without even a pause he said "You get what you get and you don't pitch a fit." They tell them that at school. I laughed so hard and immedietly called my husband.
I also do the same with casseroles or other dishes to freeze.
Great tips! I think you can never start too early with getting the kids to help out around the house- right now it is fun for them, but soon they will do it automatically because it is what you expect them to do. Great job mom!!
Have a great week!

I do the same thing with the 9x13 recipes. It's so nice to have something in the freezer for those days when you know making dinner will be tough...just have to remember in time to take it out to thaw!! Annika has a chore chart this summer. She is enjoying being able to put stickers on her chart, her reward will be an ice cream date with daddy!
Great tips. I love the last one especially and will have to store that in my memory bank.
How sweet is it that he is already helping his sister out by putting her p.j.'s away...adorable!
Happy FMM!
Hey Renee - I keep the tubes in the boys closet usually. The playdough tub stays under the playdough table. Then we have a big tub of outdoor tubs. Go to this post and you can see how one of my boys closet is organized: http://sweetlysouthern.blogspot.com/2009/03/one-tip-wednesday.html I love the drawers in this post! So handy!
Love the saying:) I use to make double and then freeze and got out of the habit:) Thanks for reminding me:)
There is a fabulous chore chart for 19 dollars at LakeShore, I think it is made by Melissa and Doug. I like it because it has chores, but also behaviors, like no whining. We just got it but plan to use it since Amanda earns
"privledges" to watch TV through her behavior and chores. I need to come up with some different privledges and rewards though....but part of me just thinks kids need to learn to help around the house without a reward or privledge each time because they are a family member:)That was a privledge in it's self:) ha ha
Hi, you had some great tips. I love the casserole tip. I've heard it and can't seem to remember it. Hope I can next time!
My favorite is the saying...love it! Will be using it soon I'm sure!
I have got to do better with the chore thing!
I love the "You get what you get..." I'll have to use that--THANKS!! I have a post up albeit late...but if you would like to come check it out I would love it!
